If you’re using a standard open-end lamp in a cleaning zone, you’re taking a huge risk. One tiny spark at the terminal or a leaky seal, and you’ve got a flash fire on your hands. Why we swear by ceramic

Cutting out the sparks
When you’re working in an explosive atmosphere, “hot spots” are the enemy. You can’t have arcing or sparking. Ceramic is just way better at insulating electricity than plastic or some cheap composite. It handles high voltage spikes without breaking a sweat. Plus, we keep the footprint small. Less surface area means less room for chemical mist to cling to.
The trade-offs (The “Gotchas”)
Now, this isn’t a magic fix that fits everywhere. These caps add some bulk to the ends of the lamp. You can’t just slide these into a housing built for naked quartz tubes. You’ll need to tweak your reflector spacing and make sure your wiring is rated for the heat the ceramic block puts out. And a quick heads-up: if your cooling fans weren’t designed for the extra mass of these caps, you might notice the terminals running a bit warmer.
