That stuff settles right on the quartz tube. Then, the moment you flip the switch, those little bits of grime create “hot spots.” The glass gets stressed out in one tiny area, and—snap—the tube ruptures.
Dealing with Splashes and Fog
We decided to stop playing defense and actually protect the gear. We started by sealing the electrical junctions and adding a hydrophobic coating to the housing. Why? Because if a stray drop of water hits a tube glowing at 500°C, the thermal shock cracks the glass instantly. It’s brutal. Our design just keeps the liquid away from the heat. Then there’s the fog. If you’re working in a humid spot, condensation builds up on the lens or reflector. It’s like trying to look through a steamed-up mirror; the heat just scatters. You end up running the unit longer just to get the temperature you actually need. We added some specialized coatings to keep that path clear so the heat goes exactly where it’s supposed to.
The Trade-off
Now, there’s a catch. Protection takes up space. A fully sealed, waterproof chassis is naturally bulkier than a skeleton frame. You also lose a bit of that natural airflow around the outside of the case. If you’re squeezing these into a tight spot, just make sure you’ve got some decent ventilation. You don’t want your control electronics sweating while the heating element is doing the heavy lifting.

This changes the math on how often you’re replacing parts. Instead of swapping out tubes every few months because someone splashed some water or the room got too damp, you only have to worry about the filament eventually wearing out—which is just how these things work.
