
Fixing the “Cold Shiver” in Changing Rooms
Let’s be honest: changing rooms are usually miserable. They’re damp, they’re chilly, and there is nothing worse than stepping out of a shower into a room that feels like a refrigerator. Most heaters try to warm up the air, but that takes forever. We do things differently. We use shortwave infrared technology in our towel rails. How the heat actually works
Most heaters just push warm air around. Infrared is different. We use quartz heating elements that hit their peak temperature in a matter of seconds. The result? You just feel the warmth the moment you step near the rail.
The nitty-gritty on the build
We stick with halogen-filled quartz tubes. Why? Because quartz can take a beating from high heat without cracking, and the halogen keeps the filament from wearing out too quickly. It means the lamps last longer, even if they’re being switched on and off all day. We also obsess over the connectors. If a connection is loose, you get arcing, and the whole thing fails. We keep everything tight and the footprint slim so it actually fits inside the rail chassis without any awkward bulging.
A few things to watch out for
Now, these tubes put out a serious amount of heat. That’s the goal, but it does create a “hot spot.” If you mount the rail too close to a wall, you might actually scorch the paint. You’ve got to leave enough breathing room. We also suggest adding a timer or a thermal cutoff. In a busy hotel, guests forget to turn things off. A cutoff prevents the tubes from burning out and keeps the whole system running smoothly without someone having to baby it.
